Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Heaven Shall Burn guitarist Maik Weichert as he’s been spending this time with his three-year-old child.

What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?

I have a three-year-old at home and it’s not getting boring at all! New chaos every day and I am loving it. We just released a double album and that one has been a massive campaign, so it´s not really the time for being creative anyway. I´d like to go out on stage and play, sure, but there will not be something like a Corona album from HSB.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

I am always listening to music. The new Vader record is great! Also Trivium, Testament and Macbeth released awesome albums. And I have to confess the new Nightwish record got a few spins on my turntable.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I am cooking a lot anyway. But it’s true, everybody seems to start cooking and baking now, it’s hard getting baker’s yeast or good flour somewhere. Crazy times. But that is at least a positive thing among all the problems, I mean it’s great, if people care and think about what they’re eating. Right now we have asparagus and rhubarb time, so I am using that a lot at the moment.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

I am listening to a few podcasts from virologists and epidemiologists, there is not much TV stuff for me – I started watching all the Simpsons Seasons again from the beginning, good memories. I also started to read the complete Calvin and Hobbes Comics collection, which is a great way to spend your nights. I also read books about former East Germany and North Korea, it’s a special field of interest of mine.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

Use the time to become happy with yourself, do not seek for distraction, face your problems and think about it – that is the key to being happy with a partner, with the family, with your friends, with society and the world! As soon as the world starts turning again you will not have time anymore to use this self-repair program!
