Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
No, there isn’t actually any Christmas music on here nor do I think there is a war on Christmas. Anyway, it’s a pretty sizable list of debuts this week including the surprise live album from Ghost. It’s obviously perfect for your holiday listening and I’m sure if Baby Jesus was born today it would make a wonderful birthday gift. Well, better than myrrh anyway. Enjoy your holidays everybody.
Also, I was asked for Korn numbers. The Serenity of Suffering sold 300 copies this week and has sold over 133,000 copies to date.
War Of Ages, Alpha (Facedown)
The band’s eighth album doesn’t debut as much its predecessor, but it’s still a solid debut.
Ghost, Ceremony and Devotion (Loma Vista)
Ghost’s first live album may by a surprise, but that means first week sales are lower than what they could have been. For reference, here’s how last year’s Popestar EP did in week one.
Avenged Sevenfold, Live at the Grammy Museum (Capitol)
This is also Avenged Sevenfold’s first live album, and like Ghost’s, was sort of a surprise. They’re really leaning into the surprise release thing, eh?
Diablo Swing Orchestra, Pascifisticuffs (Spinefarm)
This is the band’s fourth studio album.
A Night in Texas, The Global Slaughter (Self-Released)
This is the second album from this Australian (where else?) deathcore band.
Feared, Svart (Self-Released)
This is the band’s eighth album.
Red Death, Formidable Darkness (Triple B)
This is the second album from the DC crossover thrash band.
