Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

It’s that time again: the charts are topped  by a band that many people consider to be A. Past their prime, B. Not actually metal, C. Are just not good, or D. All of the above. So, have a ball with that. The band’s not crying, as they have another top ten record under their belts. Otherwise, certain bands like Alter Bridge have gotten their best debuts yet and a new prog trio you may or may not have known about debuts as well. Take a look.

Korn, The Paradigm Shift  (Prospect Park) #8, 46,000 sold

Korn takes a spot in the top 10 with its eleventh album and the band’s first with Brian “Head” Welch since 2003.


Alter Bridge, Fortress (UNiversal) #12, 29,550 sold

Alter Bridge is back with its best chart debut yet on album number four.


Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington, High Rise  (Play Pen) #24, 11,875 sold

This is the band’s first release with Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) on vocal duty.


Dance Gavin Dance, Acceptance Speech (Rise) #42, 8,300 sold

With album number five, the band has its best debut yet.


Levin, Minnemann, Rudess, Levin, Minnemann, Rudess (Lazy Bones) 590 sold

This supergroup of features old Liquid Tension Experiment bandmates Tony Levin and Jordan Rudess playing with drummer Marco Minnemann.


The Answer, New Horizon (Napalm) 500 sold

This is the bands fourth album and its first with Napalm Records.


Red Fang, Whales & Leeches (Relapse) 450 sold

The stoner rockers are back with album number four, and somehow they managed to sell 450 copies before the street date.


Notable Sales: 

Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #29, 13,700 sold

Sales are still going royally well for this one.


Metallica, Through The Never (Blackened) #51, 7,200 sold

Just under 45,000 sold after a 39% drop.


Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #57, 5,900 sold

A slight 11% drop in week 11.


Nine Inch Nails, Hesitation Marks (Columbia) #67, 5,375 sold

This has crossed over the 160,000 mark.


Dream Theater, Dream Theater (Roadrunner) #88, 4,275 sold

A 48% drop this week for the prog metal masters.


30 Seconds To Mars, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (Virgin) #124, 2,300 sold

This continues to get boosts with a 13% increase this week.


Rush, Vapor Trails Remixed (Atlantic) #127, 2,925 sold

It’s a second week drop of 70%.


Asking Alexandria, From Death To Destiny (Sumerian) #130, 2,875 sold

At week 10, this gets a big boost of of 51%.


Skillet, Rise (Atlantic), #136, 2,750 sold

This has sold just under 170,000 in total.


Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (Universal/Republic) #178, 2,100 sold

This sold almost the exact same amount as last week.


Black Sabbath, 13 (Universal) #188, 1,900 sold

A 10% drop this week.


Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Unvarnished (Blackheart) #192, 1,875  sold

A 75% second week drop.


Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #195, 1,850 sold

After dropping of the charts for a week, this pops back up.


A Skylit Drive, Rise (Tragic Hero) #198, 1,825 sold

It looks like this won’t rise much further.


Fates Warning, Darkness In a Different Light (Inside Out) 1,700 sold

Keyboardist Kevin Moore is credited for lyrics on the track “O Chloroform”.


Scar The Martyr, Scar The Martyr (Roadrunner) 1,300 sold

In a few weeks, the band will be heading out on tour with Sepultura, Unearth, and others.


The Browning, Hypernova (Earache) 970 sold

Was there ever a time when the term “crunkcore” sounded appealing?


Gemini Syndrome, Lux (Warner Bros.) 730 sold

This gets bumped up some with a 58% boost.


Eyes Set To Kill, Masks (Century Media) 570 sold

Sales aren’t exactly set to kill.


Throw The Fight, What Doesn’t Kill Us (Bullet Tooth) 460 sold

This came out over a year ago, but the band’s tour with Bullet For My Valentine is probably helping out.


The Color Morale, Know Hope (Rise) 440 sold

No doubt the band’s tour with We Came As Romans is what gave this album such a big boost in sales.


Dangerkids, Collapse (Rise) 440 sold

A fitting album titled in terms of how sales are doing.


Broken Hope, Omen of Disease (Century Media) 380 sold

A second week drop of 64%.


Oceano, Incisions (Earache) 370 sold

“Severed Appendages” features Tim Goergen of Within The Ruins.


Týr, Valkyrja (Metal Blade) 400 sold

A slight drop this week of 8%.
