One of the saddest things about former Metallica bassist Cliff Burton’s death was how young he was when it happened. The talented bassist was only 24 when he died after Metallica’s bus crashed in 1986 as the band was touring in support of Master of Puppets. His birthday is coming up on Saturday (10), and he 0nly would have been 56. However, Alameda County, CA is recognizing his birthday by nameing February 10th Cliff Burton Day. The band shared the information by posting a photo of the official proclamation, stating:
“IT’S OFFICIAL! The Board of Supervisors from Alameda County has just proclaimed February 10, 2018, which would have been Cliff’s 56th birthday, ‘Cliff Burton Day.’
“As many of you know, Cliff was born and raised in Castro Valley and was the reason we high-tailed it to the Bay Area back in ’83.
“Thanks to all of the fans who got behind this initiative and we’d like to send our appreciation and respect to all of you who continue to honor Cliff in your own personal ways. We love that he remains so revered.”
It’s encouraging to see that the whole county is celebrating, and we’re guessing if we were to look at streaming services in the county on the 10th, there’s going to be a spike in “Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)” in it.
