While Fall Out Boy originated from the Chicago hardcore and punk scene, they very quickly became the poster boys for emo, and have since evolved into a full-on pop band. That the band are playing over Judas Priest at Australia’s Soundwave Festival early next year doesn’t really sit well with Greg Puciato. The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman will be making his first-ever live appearance at the festival with Killer Be Killed, which also features Mastodon’s Troy Sanders and Soulfly’s Max Cavalera. When told by Spotlightreport.net that FOB would be playing over Priest, he said the following:
“I didn’t even know that Fall Out Boy was playing. That’s a bit weird. I mean, I hate that kind of shit. I personally think that’s disgusting. I think that Judas Priest are fucking legends of metal and that they are one of the greatest metal bands of all time, so it’s a little bit disgraceful.
I don’t think there is any reason to have a band like that. I think this is the thing when you have a band like that on the stage on a festival like that it is a really slippery slope. Like once you put like a Fall Out Boy on there it becomes like one step closer to becoming a pop festival. So adding those kinds of bands is an obvious strategy to sell tickets.
Honestly, they probably shouldn’t even be playing but you know what happens a band gets on a festival and they find out where they are playing or they make a big thing about how high they want to be on the bill, but there is a lot of politics involved when there are bands that size, because their egos get hurt. They want to be as a high as they can be on the bill. I mean, its fucking Judas Priest man! it’s like fucking almost Black Sabbath. They are metal royalty. So that is a little bit sad for me to hear.”
Fall Out Boy Guitarist Joe Trohmann might take issue with that, as he’s logged time in The Damned Things with Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley. And while his current band probably shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as Judas Priest, he of all of the members of the band at least has some metal cred.
