spinaltapliveearthWhen you think of your classic band lineup, it’s usually a four-piece, maybe a five piece. Generally one or two guitars, a bassist, a drummer and a singer. Sure, sometimes a little something extra gets in the mix, like a keyboard player, DJ or another vocalist. but for the most part, that’s pretty much the norm. Every now and then, an extra instrument comes along though, be it a third guitarist, and extra drummer, or something else, that fills out the band and makes them what they are. With that in mind here are five of those bands (and a few honorable mentions):

5) Kvelertak

Kvelertak have been winning over audiences since 2010, when their debut album was released The Norwegian sextet, who many saw for the first time in America this past year opening for Mastodon, put on a ridiculously high energy show that wouldn’t be the same with any less musicians. On songs like “Fossegrim” where all three guitars are playing harmonies, it’s hard to imagine what the band would sound like with “only” two guitarists.
