Slayer’s follow up to 2009’s World Painted Blood isn’t going to be out until next year, and even though we’ve only heard one song from it, that’s not stopping former drummer Dave Lombardo from talking about it. Making the rounds in support of the second album from his band Philm, he’s offered that the album’s been being worked on for years and that the album is typical Slayer. Now, as drummers tend to do, current drummer Paul Bostaph is hitting back. In an interview with an Australian radio station, Bostaph said he’s getting tired of Lombardo’s shit-talking:
People tell me all the time about, ‘Hey, he said this,’ ‘He said that.’ After a while, you’ve just gotta, like …’I just wanna play drums, man.’ That’s all there is to it.I heard that Dave [said that he] wrote all the parts on the new record for the drums. It’s funny that I didn’t see him anywhere around when I was working on the music. So it’s one of those things where I get where he’s coming from, but man, there’s two sides to every story, and I’m getting a little tired of hearing his. And I’m just gonna leave it at that, because I don’t take it personally.
It’ll be interesting to hear how the drum tracks on the next record sound. Lombardo certainly has a signature style, but will it be obvious on hearing the next record that Bostaph is on the it? We’ll hear soon enough.
