Did you like World Painted Blood, the last album from Slayer? We did. It was perfectly acceptable latter-day Slayer, even though it didn’t come close the the juggernaut of Reign in BloodSouth of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. At any rate, former drummer Dave Lombardo, who was booted from the  band last year over a financial dispute, continues to talk about the follow-up to 2009’s World Painted Blood, which will be the band’s debut album for Nuclear Blast. In an interview with Metal Wani, Lombardo, who’s promoting the sophomore album from his band Philm, suggested the band’s pretty much treading the same ground that their last album had:

“Do I feel the same about the material? It’s the best ever? That’s pretty much a very self-absorbed comment to say about your music… I, quite honestly, don’t have an opinion about the music. What I do know is that we’ve been working on those same songs that they’re recording right now, I’ve worked on those songs since 2011, with Kerry. So those songs are not new. And all they’re doing is replacing my drums; that’s all they’re doing. They’re replacing my drums with the other drummer [Paul Bostaph], his playing… I mean, I have all the tracks, I have all the songs. It’s typical Slayer. If you wanna listen to this album, you might as well just pick up the last album. It’s nothing new.”

The next album, which is still untitled, will be released next year. Earlier this year, Slayer performed their new single, “Implode,” at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, then released a studio version of the song.
