We heard a snippet of new material from Black Sabbath’s new album 13 last week. And while June 11 is only two months away, it turns out that we’ll get another taste of new music from Black Sabbath in an unusual way… more specifically, via CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
CBS has announced that Black Sabbath will be performing a new song called “End Of The Beginning” in the crime drama’s season finale to air on May 15. In case you care about how Sabbath plays into the plot, the episode will feature two characters (one played by Ted Danson) attending the group’s show as they investigate a trail of murders with horrifying similarities to the sins in “Dante’s Inferno.” Here’s something that might interest you more, though: in separate photos both CBS and The Hollywood Reporter posted online (assumingly from the filming), Tommy Clufetos appears behind the drum kit. Does this imply that Clufetos (who filled in for Bill Ward during Sabbath’s first round of shows last year) will be touring with Sabbath instead of Brad Wilk (who appears on the album, and whom Geezer Butler didn’t rule out touring with)?
As far as Sabbath’s TV cameo, it’s not exactly the first time metal and hard rock crossed paths with CSI. The show did premiere new songs from Van Halen last year, and Rob Zombie did put his backing band in the episode he directed of the “Miami” edition. Still, we didn’t expect to see what might turn out to be Sabbath’s first performance of new material on the same screen with Ted Danson.
