In 2009, Alice In Chains took a lot of people by surprise with Black Gives Way To Blue, the bands first album in 14 years. Following the death of original vocalist Layne Staley, nobody expected William DuVall to fill his shoes so well. Not only did the sound like vintage AiC, but the amazing job that Nick Raskulinecz did co-producing it gave the band a sonic update. We mention this because in an interview with Guitar World, guitarist Jerry Cantrell says that the band is finished recording a new album that will be out next year.

Alice in Chains again went back to Raskulinecz for the new album. “It’s like having to deal with the sophomore jinx for the second time in our career,” Cantrell says. Given that your first sophomore album was the amazing Dirt, the band have nothing to worry about. He says that Black Gives Way to Blue “stood up to anything else we’ve put out in our career,” and that the new one is up there too. We hope so. There’s a more extensive interview with Cantrell in the January issue of Guitar World. And while “Check my Brain” was easily the catchiest song on that album, we’ve also included the evil-sounding “A Looking In View” after the jump.
