Ok, so we’ve been giving a lot of coverage on Slayer’s new album and EP. But from what we can tell, it appears that we’re not the only ones excited for new Slayer material. Most of the updates we’ve heard so far have come from drummer Dave Lombardo. However, Loudwire were lucky enough to get an update from guitarist Kerry King himself before the Metal Masters Clinic in LA two weeks ago.
When asked about the progress on the new album, King responded:
“We’ve only been working on it for a couple of weeks right now, since our producer from the last record [Greg Fidelman] had a small window and me and Dave [Lombardo] are working on nine songs so we thought we could get in and finish two or three and demo everything else so that’s what we’re trying to do now. I don’t know if anything will come out by Mayhem or not, hopefully we’ll get two done and we can get it out to Mayhem.”
So in a nutshell, King confirms a lot of what we already knew, including:
- Slayer is working with producer Greg Fidelman
- At least two songs will come out by the time they start Mayhem Fest.
Lombardo seemed a little more confident that Slayer would release an EP right before (or more likely just in time) touring on Mayhem Fest on the Revolver Golden Gods black carpet, though at least King remains hopeful. There is also the possibility that a lot of progress has already been made since the Loudwire interview was conducted. Here’s hoping that they’ll get enough done so that they keep to their goal of releasing an EP before Mayhem!
