Yesterday, rumors started to spread that Philip Anselmo and Geezer Butler would be joining Slayer’s Kerry King and Dave Lombardo, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante and Frank Bello, Megadeth’s David Ellefson, and Adrenaline Mob’s Mike Portnoy for the third Metal Masters Clinic. And sure enough, the Pantera/Down frontman and Black Sabbath bassist indeed hopped onstage last night.
First, Anselmo joined the clinic (along with Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick) for a rendition of Slayer’s “Raining Blood” and “Angel Of Death.” Then, Anselmo lead the group of musicians through three Pantera classics, including “A New Level,” “Mouth Of War,” “This Love” and “Walk.” To top it all off, Geezer Butler joined the musicians (with Anselmo still on vocals) to perform Black Sabbath’s “Hole In The Sky.”
Last night’s Metal Master Clinic can be seen in its entirey (including Adrenaline Mob’s opening performance) after the jump, at least until it’s taken down. However, video of the all-star lineup performing “Hole In The Sky” can be seen above.
[Note: Adrenaline Mob’s performance starts at the beginning of the video; the clinic starts around the 52 minute mark; Anselmo joins in around the 2 hour and 18 minute mark; Butler joins in around the 3 hour mark]
