King’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill is in stable condition after having a heart attack on Saturday night (25). An update on the 54 year-old drummer and singer for the progressive hard rock band was given on the Facebook fan page of his band’s frontman and bassist, dUg Pinnick. “Jerry had a heart attack last night,” the post said. “He was operated on and is in stable condition at the hospital. We’re all waiting for more info. I will keep you posted.” Earlier today, he posted an update, stating “Julie said Jerry woke up pulling chords (sic) out, she says hes feisty! that’s a good sign! thanks everyone for prayers and good vibes! it can only get better now!!!”
The Houston Press, the first news organization to report the news, says that the band had been scheduled to launch a tour in March. It was to have launched on March 28 in Austin and extended through April 21. There’s no word yet on whether those dates will be postponed or cancelled. Pinnick and Gaskill have been playing together since 1979, when they met in Springfield Missouri.. They moved to Austin and changed the band’s name to King’s X in 1985. We’ll keep you updated on this, and our thoughts are with Gaskill and his friends and family.
