Icelandic hard rock/metal outfit Drungi are gearing up for the release of their debut album, Hamfarir Hugans, on April 5th. The band has teamed up with Metal Insider to unveil their second single, “Myrkur” (Dark), ahead of the album’s arrival. Continuing to give a taste for what’s to come the track follows the success of their first single, “Alda,” which dropped in late 2023. “Myrkur” is a heavy waltz that delves into themes of darkness and depression.

Inspired by one of Drungi’s early demos, the song invites listeners to embrace the darkness within. As the album marks Drungi’s fifth year together, it promises to be an emotional rollercoaster, exploring themes of mental health issues with tracks like “Ófærð” (Impass) and “Þoka” (Fog). Sung entirely in Icelandic, the lyrics resonate with the harsh environments of the band’s homeland.

The group explains:

“We don’t know what happens in the darkness and how it will affect our life, and that’s the scary idea that happens in the musical part of Myrkur. Depression, You can let the darkness control you but you must remember to turn on the light that only oneself can turn on. The darkness can be obsessive but it is dangerous if it’s used wrong on others and yourself.”
