Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Fall of Earth’s Brodie Bauer (guitar, vocals) who talks all about his cat named Corpsegrinder.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
I have the most amazing cat in the world, and her name is Corpsegrinder! Named after the vocalist for the death metal band, “Cannibal Corpse”. She is a sophisticated cat, who is very polite and friendly. She loves being around people and is always down to get pets and snuggles. She is notorious for her iconic mustache and adorable kitty stare. Corpsegrinder just recently turned 3 years old and has been my baby since I found her at 6 months.
Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
No, I have not, and I actually haven’t ever heard of this being a thing that people do. But I think it’s awesome that other metal musicians take their furry companions with them on the road! I’m sure Corpsegrinder would love to go on an adventure with us sometime, but unfortunately, she does not enjoy car rides.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
My roommate usually looks after Corpsegrinder while we’re on the road, and gives her all the love while I’m gone. My roommate also has 2 cats of her own, so Corpsegrinder gets to spend time with her cat homies. I do miss her big time while we’re on tour and am always excited to see her when I come home. She’s so sweet and loyal too, she saves up all her extra cat snuggles for me whenever I come back after tour!
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
Corpsegrinder’s favorite song is easily Evisceration Plague, by her favorite band Cannibal Corpse. I haven’t actually seen her headbang to this song but I pretend in my head that she does, and if death metal doesn’t scare away a cat then I take that as a good sign!
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
When I originally found Corpsegrinder in 2020, I was living in a house with my bandmates and friends, and there was always metal playing 24/7. She’s been around metal her whole life, just like her dad. I think she’s been wanting to learn how to play the guitar so I’m planning on teaching her soon!
What animal charity means most to you?
I used to work for World Wildlife Fund, and that charity is very important to me. Their importance on endangered animals and protecting our beautiful wildlife is something I stand for. It was an honor to be part of this cause and to help raise awareness and funds for them. I also strongly support our local animal charities here in Edmonton, especially The Edmonton Humane Society, which specializes in domestic animals, and saving them from unfortunate situations.
