Behemoth’s Adam “Nergal” Darski has come out victorious in his latest dealings with the Polish legal system.
On September 13, Darski shared the news on Instagram that the blasphemy case involving a 2019 image of the singer standing on a painting of the Virgin Mary had been dismissed. Along with a photo of himself and an inset of the offending image, he wrote the caption,
“Case DISMISSED. There’s NOTHING controversial about the jury’s verdict so fuckin’ DEAL with it. AFTER ALL we live in civilized and democratic country… still. Common sense beats the shit out of fundamentalist agenda which means on more step towards Poland remaining a secular state! Moreover, I know it’s like talking to the wall but to all my adversaries: dont’t give me that ‘do the same with Koran’ bullshit coz it’s old and irrelevant. I keep on spamming here coz I simply LOVE polarization between half of u dear followers congratulating me for the battle won and the other half… that would love see me crucifucked 😂🤓😎”
Darski first informed fans of his latest legal issue back in February. At the time, he revealed he had been convicted earlier that month for “Offending Religious Feelings” and asked to pay approximately $4980 USD in fines and legal fees. He contested the charges and refused to pay.
Over the years, Darski has faced similar charges several times. In 2010, he was acquitted of a case stemming from a 2008 stage performance where he tore a bible in half. Then, in 2018, he beat blasphemy charges associated with a merch design the Polish courts felt defamed the country’s coat of arms.
Following the latest charges, Darski created a campaign to help other artists struggling with legal issues regarding blasphemy laws.
Behemoth released a four-track EP, titled A Forest, in May 2020 featuring a cover of The Cure’s song of the same name. A video for the EP’s track “Shadows Ov Ea Coast Upon Golgotha” was released in June 2021.
In February 2021, the band signed with Nuclear Blast Records and announced that they would be working on a new full-length album. It will be the band’s first LP since 2018’s I Loved You At Your Darkest.
