Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Summoner’s Circle drummer Invictus as he’s been spending this time finding ways to be more creative.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
I just ended up staying inside like most everyone else almost all the time. In a way, it forces us all to be a bit more creative with the places we go, which also led to me visiting Laurel Hill Cemetery a lot more than usual. For those who don’t know, it’s a huge historical cemetery in the Philadelphia area with not many people around. It’s one of those places you can visit over and over again and always find something new. Amazing place.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
To tell you about some metal releases, I really enjoyed the new Bodom After Midnight EP (RIP Alexi), and I also have been jamming on the latest Helloween album (Fear of the Fallen). I can’t help but keep listening to the “Ritual” album from The Black Dahlia Murder. The quality of those drum recordings is in my top 5 of all time for sure. I’ve also been digging deeper into the discography of Death, Mayhem, and Darkthrone as well.
As for non-metal, and this is totally out in left field, I know, but Bo Burnham’s newest comedy special has some awesome tunes that have been stuck in my head since they came out.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?
I don’t cook too many recipes of my own, but I can make a pretty good steak! I’ve also had plenty of grilled cheese and ramen noodles though.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
For TV shows, I finally got around to watching Game of Thrones! I also ended up watching all of Evil, Queen’s Gambit, Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Staircase over the course of the quarantine. As for games, I played several but the most notable had to be Resident Evil 7 and 8, and Valheim.
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
As of now it seems like it’s wrapping up, but I’d recommend staying busy and to be creative with trying to better yourself at home. Learn something new! We have great access to resources online for just about anything you could possibly want to learn, so take advantage of that!
