Devildriver have released their fourth single, “Wishing” from their upcoming album Dealing With Demons I scheduled for Friday October 2nd via Napalm Records. Frontman Dez Fafara spoke about writing the song with American Songwriter and how it tackles loneliness after finding out his wife Anahstasia Fafara was diagnosed with skin cancer. Fortunately, the cancer was removed during successful surgery.

“[It] explores what it would be like without my wife-we’ve been together a long time, raised three kids, she’s my manager- and when I finished writing the song, we found out she had cancer so I must’ve had some premonition of what was going on, so this is the demon of loneliness.”

The track follows the theme of loss and marks the first time with clean vocals on a DevilDriver track from Dez. According to the press release, footage for the video was filmed in separate locations with each band member to properly practice social distancing:

The dreamlike official music video for “Wishing” – the band’s most surreal visual yet – places each member of Devildriver in a nightmarish state, trying to physically reach their loved ones just to have them disappear once they’ve nearly grasped them. Echoing the lyrical themes of the track itself, Dez and his bandmates experience this loss again and again down an eerie rabbit hole, surrounded by faceless beings and distorted imagery.
The footage seen in the “Wishing” video was filmed in separate locations by each band member, with social distancing practiced as a top priority. The finished product was directed by Vicente Cordero/Industrialism Films.
