The San Diego Comic-Con@Home virtual convention ended it’s five day run this weekend, but not without a “most excellent” panel taking a look at one of the most highly-anticipated sequels of the summer.
Hosted by Kevin Smith, Saturday’s (25) ‘Bill & Ted Face The Music’ panel featured stars Keanu Reeves (Ted Logan), Alex Winter (Bill Preston), Samara Weaving (Thea Preston), Brigette Lundy-Paine (Billie Logan) and William Sadler (Death), as well as writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, and director Dean Parisot talking about how the third film came to be 30 years after the first two.
Said Winter:
“It was a good at least ten years ago we were all having dinner, Chris, Eddie, Keanu and myself, and they posed quite similarly to the way they posed ‘Bill & Ted Go To Hell’ as I recall, in fact it felt similar…in fact none of us really matured so it felt identical. And they were like, ‘we’ve got this other idea for a Bill & Ted movie’ and we just felt anecdotal, and they just kind of, not really pitched us, but sort of laid out this very summer-y version of kind of a piss-take of Dickens, of sort of going back in your life and finding that each iteration of your life was worse than the previous… And none of us really thought about embarking on a journey of trying to make a third, and even that night I think we all kind of left that dinner thinking ‘well, this isn’t really worth doing, no one really needs it unless it was great and we could somehow magically hold on to the creative well enough that it maintained its integrity, that initial idea.’ And thus began a very long road to getting us sitting in front of your laptops today.”
According to a synopsis of the film, Bill & Ted Face The Music finds our “now middle-aged best friends set[ting] out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends — to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.”
Bill & Ted Face The Music hits open theaters and Video On Demand September 1. To get excited, you can view trailer one here and two below.
