The Smashing Pumpkins have announced the Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour, their first to feature founding members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha since 2000. Longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder will also be part of the trek as the group will have a three guitar lineup. It will be a celebration of the group’s thirtieth anniversary, which will include songs from their debut album Gish along with tracks from Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the infinite Sadness, Adore, and Machina. The run kicks off on July 12th in Glendale AZ and concludes on September 7th in Boise, ID. Tickets go on sale to the general public next Friday (23rd) at 10:00 AM local time.
Corgan commented:
“Some 30 years ago, as The Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha and I began a musical journey in the cramped rear bedroom of my Father’s house. And so it’s magic to me that we’re able to coalesce once more around the incredible Jimmy Chamberlin, to celebrate those songs we’ve made together. This show and staging will be unlike any we’ve ever done, and will feature a set unlike any we’ve ever played. For if this is a chance at a new beginning, we plan on ushering it in with a real bang.”
Obviously, this doesn’t include the full original lineup since bassist D’arcy Wretzky who was part of the group from 1988-1999, will not be attending. According to a recent Alternative Nation interview, Wretzky explained her exclusion:
“[Billy] has been telling people, ‘Well [The Smashing Pumpkins] haven’t played with [D’arcy] at all in 18 years.’ Right dumbass, because then it wouldn’t be a reunion! He says that he’s invited me to come out and play for all of these things, which is a complete lie. He’s never invited me to anything. In fact, my feelings were a little bit hurt because he did the solo album tour, and he didn’t tell me when it started. I was texting him saying, ‘Where the fuck are you dumbass?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, I’m in New York. The tour started.’ Then I’m like, ‘Where are you?’ ‘Oh, the tour ended, you missed it.’ He thinks it’s a privilege for anyone to be in his presence, so therefore he shouldn’t have to tell me, and I shouldn’t have to be invited.”
