Back in 2014, At the Gates surprised everyone by releasing their first album in 19 years. The fact that they released an album was less of one compared to the fact that the influential Gothenburg melodeath band’s fifth album was actually not only a worthy addition to their catalog, but one that stood beside Slaughter of the Soul. And while guitarist and co-founder Anders Bjorler is no longer in the band, it looks very much like 2018 will see a new album from the band. They announced that they’ll be hitting the studio next week to work on album #6.

“Now it’s only one week left until we enter the studio to record our follow-up record to At War With Reality. We are super-excited about this record and can’t wait for you guys to hear the new songs. More updates from the studio will follow shortly.”

Jonas Stalhammar, who’s played in The Crown among other bands, was announced as the replacement guitarist last month. We’ll probably be getting a taste of new material in March when the band play the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest.
