Last week, fans of tech-death band Obscura had reason to worry after a cryptic post with hashtags including #theend and #thefinal. The internet being an echo chamber, many fans (and metal websites like this one) hypothesized that the German band might be calling it quits after 15 years. Thankfully, bassist Linus Klaunitzer has set the record straight. Not only are the band not breaking up, they’re in the studio recording a new album.
The hashtags refer to the fact that the band’s forthcoming album will be the end of the four-album cycle they began with Cosmogenesis. And while it’s the final album of that cycle, that doesn’t mean it’s the band’s final album. It’s allegedly the heaviest and most technical album they’ve written to date. No word on when the album is out, but Akroasis, their fourth album, was just released last year, so expect it sometime next year likely.
