Testament’s eleventh album, Brotherhood of the Snake, will be out on October 28th. A lot of people are getting excited about it. The Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney isn’t one of them. Already a snarky presence on Twittter, he’s been given a (likely recurring) segment on HBO’s new nightly VICE News Tonight show. “Patrick Carney’s High Standards Music Corner” finds him listening to and critiquing recently released songs.
He requests “no metal,” during the segment, but along with tracks by One Republic, Lady Gaga and Norah Jones, he’s played a piece of the forthcoming Testament album’s title track.”Do you know how hard it is to get your guitar to sound like a modem from 1996?” he asks. It quickly moves on to Lady Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion,” where he again complains about the sound of the guitar on that. Guess he’s not a Josh Homme fan either. If you think he’s being a snarky asshole, well that’s why VICE is having him on in the first place.
VICE News Tonight airs M-F at 7:30 on HBO.
