Earlier today President Obama welcomed the leaders of five Nordic nations, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland, to the Nordic Summit at the White House. Climate change, countering violent extremism, the refugee crisis, and Russian aggression, were all on the agenda for the summit, but more importantly when President Obama was addressing Finnish president Sauli Niinistö, he mentioned the possible connection between Finland having the most heavy metal bands per capita and the good governance of the country.
“I do wanna point out that Finland has perhaps the most heavy metal bands in the world per capita and also ranks high on good governance. I don’t know if there’s any correlation there.” – President Obama
Finland apparently boats an impressive 54 heavy metal bands per 100,000 people in the country, an impressive feat compared to the United States’ measly five. So does President Obama really get down to Nightwish, Children of Bodom and Amorphis, or did his speechwriter just see an opportunity to make the President look cool? We’ll let you decide.
