stipeWe are Metal Insider, so it’s been a while since we’ve written about R.E.M. In fact, a Google search reveals that we’ve never written about them before, which we’re proud of. However, that streak comes to an end today, as Michael Stipe, the former lead singer of the band, made his TV debut as a solo artist by appearing on last night’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Since Stipe will be one of the artists appearing at the New York City David Bowie tribute concerts happening this week, he unsurprisingly covered Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World.” What is surprising, however, is how much he looks exactly like Crowbar frontman Kirk Windstein. Just look at that – the similarities are uncanny. In fact, he’s only one “That Metal Show” tattoo away from actually being Kirk. Below, for the first and last time on our site, watch Michael Stipe perform, then look below the video so you can A/B the former R.E.M. frontman with the former Down guitarist.
