Of all the current metal bands out there, few have embraced vinyl more than Mastodon. With all of their Reprise catalog available on vinyl in multiple editions and their Relapse albums also having been released more than once, there’s no excuse for you the discerning Mastodon vinyl junkie to not be able to get their fix. However, that doesn’t mean they’re done yet, as the band announced that they will be releasing a 12″ vinyl picture disc of “White Walker,” the song they recorded for the Game of Thrones compilation Catch the Throne: The Mixtape, Volume 2.
The first side will features the song, physically available for the first time. The B-side will feature an acapella version of the song, as performed by Brann Dailor on his phone in his kitchen as a sketch for what the song, perhaps, the most melodic song they have, would become. The track was commissioned by HBO after some of the band appeared as extras onthe show as “wildlings.” Welsh artist Richey Beckett designed the artwork, with the b-side art a still from the episode.
The disc is available as a pre-order now, and will be released on February 19th in limited qualities.
