The internet can be very creative when trying to make fun of something or someone and, a while ago, many used the trending “Straight Outta Compton” meme to do just that. While the meme got old really quick, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee took the chance to bring it back after playing with Metallica at Rock in Rio this past weekend and called out Lars Ulrich’s drumming, which you can see here.

Right after Motley Crue and Metallica shared stage at this year’s edition Rock in Rio, Tommy Lee took over his Twitter account to express his opinion on his colleague Lars Ulrich performance, by simply sharing the picture below:

While is funny to see two old man busting each other’s balls, it’s relevant to remember where this rivalry came from. Back in 1997, Motley Crue performed at the American Music Awards using playback and Ulrich called them out on it, to which the Crue decided to respond with the following letter:

“Dear, Sweet, Fat, Balding, Larz (love the make-up, babe!) Taking your ever-moronic soapbox position on a subject that’s NONE of your fucking business has made you out to be an asshole as usual. Considering that me and Tommy know that your live tapes have been re-recorded. And ALL your instruments were repaired in Pro Tools (and had that balls to lie to your fans an call it a ‘live’ album)… People in glass houses should NOT throw rocks!! Considering your bullshit to the press, we feel it’s only fair to return the punch!!…Your [sic] such a poseur…Thanks for releasing that ‘load’ of shit CD of yours…you made more room for us!!”

On the other hand, Metallica’s hatred towards Motley Crue goes back to 80’s during the uprising of glam and thrash metal next to each other trying to win over the Los Angeles scene. Watch the video below where Lars speaks a little bit about the charming relationship he established with Motley Crue back in the days.

I can’t help but imagine how the encounters between both bands are during these type of festivals. Considering how James Hetfield is, he must have grown out of that feud years ago but I doubt I can say the same about Lars. I’m sure we will see more beef in the future, even if the Crue are retiring at the end of the year.
