There’s a new Latin metal supergroup, and they’ve signed to Roadrunner. The most recognizable member of De La Tierra to most Americans is Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser. The band also features Mana drummer Alex Gonzalez, former A.N.I.M.A.L. frontman Andres Giminez and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs bassist Sr. Flavio. The band’s self-titled album will be out on Roadrunner on January 14th. The band have premiered a video for the song “Maldita Historia,” which starts out with a crunchy downtuned nu-metally riff that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a ’90s Sepultura album. There’s also an anthemic chorus that would be even more anthemic if we knew Spanish a little better. Oh yeah, the album’s sung entirely in Spanish and Portugese.
The band’s actually been in the works for years now, with Giminez and Gonzales discussing their love of heavy music starting eight years ago. After Flavio got on board in 2011, they asked Kisser to join, which he did immediately. The band’s debut album was self-produced and recorded and mixed in Sao Paulo, Guadalajara, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles by Stanley Soares (Motorhead, Sepultura). Gonzales describes the album as “Metal that is fast, powerful, explosive, with lots of adrenaline,” saying that it has melody and also a lot of punch. Seems legit. It’s pretty interesting to see a Sepultura member return to Roadrunner, considering both Soulfly and Sepultura are no longer on the label. Check out the video below.
