It’s been eleven years since At The Drive-In went on an “indefinite hiatus.” Following the band’s demise, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez went on to form The Mars Volta, while the remaining members started Sparta. But now it would appear that the influential post hardcore band will be reuniting.

On a newly launch website, as well as their Twitter account, At The Drive-In had the following message posted:

“¡ ATTENTION ! To whom it may concern: AT THE DRIVE-IN will be breaking their 11 year silence THIS STATION IS …NOW…OPERATIONAL”

While the message itself is rather vague, the Alt Press has confirmed that At The Drive-In are reuniting. As to what exactly the reunion will entail, though, is still unclear. However, one thing is for certain: we can add this as another reason to be excited for 2012. Hopefully the youthful exuberance and general spazzy post-punk nature of the band will still sparkle after 11 years of inactivity. We sure hope so, because nothing’s sadder than a bunch of older people trying to rekindle the past.
