During Metallica’s Saturday (8th) performance at Slane Castle in Meath Ireland, the band dedicated its cover version of “Whiskey in the Jar” to Thin Lizzy founder Phil Lynott whose 1973 version of the iconic Irish folk song inspired Metallica to create their own version. A version which earned the band a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance back in 2000.

The performance was captured on video and shows James Hetfield saying a heartfelt, “We love you, Phil” at the end of the clip.

Metallica are currently on their WorldWired tour for their album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which was released in November 2016. During the group’s performance last night (11th) in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the band invited a boy named Evan onstage at the Johan Cruijff Arena. It was the 13-year-old-boy’s birthday as he was invited to celebrate his special day by sitting in on drums during part of “Seek & Destroy.”
