Suicide Silence have released “Doris,” their first single off of their fifth studio album set to be released on February 24 on Nuclear Blast. This is the first glimpse of the new self-titled album and it’s definitely not your typical Suicide Silence.

When talk of a new Suicide Silence album began last year, many rumors circled around about a possible new direction for the band. In a time where it seems almost every metalcore and deathcore band are changing their sound, speculation began about what was to come from the band.

On the single, the band stray away from their signature breakdowns and blast beats in favor of nu metal riffs and grooves. SS have always shown their love for nu metal in the past, touring with Korn and even having Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis on The Black Crown album, so this does not come completely out of left field.  If you threw Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, and a dash of Suicide Silence into a blender and put it on high this is what the final product would be and it’s not half bad. Most of this can be directly attributed to producer Ross Robinson, known for producing several nu metal classics.

Vocals were the big talk in comment sections of the rumor mill about what to expect from the new album. Many people threw up their arms when they found out a good amount of the new album will contain clean vocals. “Doris” sees vocalist Eddie Hermida combining clean singing, very in the style of Chino Moreno from the Deftones, with this new style of screaming that moves away from his signature high screams and low roars.  The band debuted “Doris” live at Ozzfest meets Knotfest in September 2016 and it has been in their set since. With nu metal titans like Korn and Slipknot still going strong, and the numerous metalcore bands going in a more nu metal direction, the nu metal revival is definitely real. 1999 would be proud.

Here’s what the band has to say about it: “From the band to you the fans we hope you had some bad ass, family filled, lovely holidays but now if the time to get what you really wanted and have been waiting for. We got pre-orders, a video and a new track coming right at you! Enjoy our new song ‘Doris’ and go put in your order while packages last!  Sui is BACK!”
