Myrkur has unveiled a video for her latest single, “Mothlike.” The track is taken from her forthcoming album, Spine, out October 20 via Relapse Records. The album delves into the contrast between profound human connections, like that between mother and child, and the increasing disconnect in today’s world, influenced by pandemic restrictions and artificial intelligence. Musically, Spine is Myrkur’s most open work yet, blending various musical influences and showcasing Amalie Bruun’s compelling vocals. Spine promises to be a captivating and introspective exploration of emotions and sonic landscapes. The album will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms, with deluxe edition pressings, including a special pink version for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

David Fitt, director of the video, explained:

“Early on in the process, I knew that translating ‘Mothlike’ into a video required the notion of transformation—like caterpillars do turning into moths. It led me to think about artists, how they are often met with defiance and rejection when they bring something new to the table, before getting recognized after perseverance and determination. The video is quite literally the illustration of this process, until the eye-opening reveal of a new truth expanding your vision.”
