Richmond metal outfit Inter Arma have announced their fifth studio album, New Heaven, is set to arrive on April 26th via Relapse Records. The album promises to be a compelling and creative piece exploring styles of doom, death, and black metal interspersed with fleeting light moments. To showcase what’s to come, the band has unveiled a video for the title track.

While diving into various musical styles, the record explores the band’s recent struggles, including visa problems, stolen passports, member turmoil, accidents, and a paradoxical sense of their place in the metal scene.

As “New Heaven” took shape, the band faced the resurgence of the “Inter Arma Curse.” Despite pandemic-related setbacks and lineup changes, including the addition of bassist Joel Moore, the album features music the band could have never before executed. Paparo’s poignant lyrics explore themes of war, addiction, and social apathy, making New Heaven a profound and honest reflection. Inter Arma will perform New Heaven in its entirety at this year’s Roadburn Festival on April 18th.

T.J. Childers comments:

New Heaven is the culmination of four years worth of adversity ranging from near death experiences, multiple member changes and of course a global pandemic. It marks a new chapter for us musically as we feel we’ve taken our songwriting to places we’ve never explored before. We’re excited to have come out of the madness relatively unscathed and feel as though we’ve created something completely unique that will stand apart in the sometimes homogenous extreme music community.”

Guitarist Trey Dalton adds:

“This record, maybe more than our previous efforts, more fully represents what we’re trying to accomplish. It’s still very much us – you know, music made by dudes coming from disparate musical backgrounds and perspectives, but with a more collective and defined sense of purpose. Clarity in direction, maybe. Your mileage may vary, but we like it a lot, and we hope you do too.”
