In the wake of the tenth anniversary of Dimebag Darrell’s assassination earlier this week, Godsmack have shared some previously-unreleased backstage footage of Dime, as well as footage of singer Sully Erna performing “Walk” with Pantera in Las Vegas. This clip speaks to the inclusiveness of Pantera and Dime, who from all accounts was friendly to everyone. In the footage, Dime, who did a lot of the filming of Pantera’s home videos, blows smoke in the camera’s face backstage as Sharon and Jack Osbourne hang in the background. It appears to have been filmed in 2000, when Pantera and Godsmack shared the bill on Ozzfest. Here’s what Erna had to say about Dime:
“I miss Dime tremendously. He was an anomaly, an inspiration and simply the kindest-hearted friend I’ve ever known,” Erna tells Billboard. “He will never be forgotten! A senseless tragedy that gave heaven the opportunity to gain a legend.”
The footage, which is previously-unreleased, was initially filmed for Godsmack’s 2002 DVD, Smack This!.
