ghostbathGhost Bath’s sophomore album, Moonlover, wound up on quite a few year-end lists upon it’s 2015 release. The fact that a mysterious black metal band from China released a buzzed-about album was a compelling story, even without the music, which shared DNA with bands like Wolves in the Throne Room and Deafheaven. Available on tiny German label Northern Silence Productions, it was the follow up to the previous year’s Funeral, which came out on an even smaller Chinese label. However, after some research, it was discovered that the band were actually from Minot, ND, and had been misleading the press. Scandalous? Nah, not really. No one seemed to care all that much. At any rate, the band have now signed with an American label, Nuclear Blast, who have re-released Moonlover with a bonus track, “Ascension.”

It makes sense that Ghost Bath sign with a worldwide label, given the fact that they’re popular in countries where their music wasn’t available other than an import. It also makes sense for Nuclear Blast to pick them up, as black metal is one of the few genres they’re lacking in. The album is out now digitally, and will get a CD and vinyl release on June 10th. The band have released a video for “Golden Number,” of which the band’s Nameless describes as:

“The music video for ‘Golden Number’ was birthed from a short story written by myself. It is an introduction into the band as a whole, revealing the definition of GHOST BATH; the act of committing suicide by drowning. Symbolism can be found throughout the video ritual, mainly, the symbolic and literal death of oneself as an ultimate solution to the unrelenting anxieties and stressors of waking life.”

Now that the veil of secrecy has been lifted from the band (or at least the mystery of their origin), maybe they’ll be able to do some American touring. As for now, here’s the video:
