Satanic Temple publicly unveils satanic statue in Detroit

Remember that story about The Satanic Temple planning to build a monument to our dark lord, Satan, for the Oklahoma State capitol? Yes, you do! The project was placed on hold after some guy crashed his car against the already-erected 10 commandments statue, vandalized it by urinating on it and threatened the government using the “Satan made me do it” excuse, to which The Satanic Temple responded:

“As many are aware, we are seeking to have a Satanic monument erected alongside the 10 Commandments — and only alongside the 10 Commandments. We do not want our monument to stand alone.”

That plan didn’t work out, as the Oklahoma Supreme court ruled that even the 10 commandment monument violated a section of the state constitution that bans the use of state property for the benefit of a religion. But with the statue already on its way, the temple decided to reveal the statue at an undisclosed location in the Detroit area, during a private event for ticket-holders only who received the information of the site last minute via email, in order to avoid a backlash from many protesters. That didn’t stop about 50 protesters from gathering outside a business that had initially planned to host the statue, however.

The temple also has plans to relocate the 9-foot monument to Arkansas where earlier this year the governor signed a bill authorizing a 10 Commandments monument on the State Capitol’s grounds.
