We only knew tentative details about Philip Anselmo’s split with Warbeast this past summer. Now, though, we know a hell of a lot more (including when we will actually get to hear it).

Titled War Of The Gargantuas, the split will be released on January 8, 2013 via Anselmo’s Housecore Records. As we previously knew, the release will feature two tracks from Anselmo’s forthcoming solo album and two track from Warbeast (featuring former bassist Alan Bovee). The Down/ex-Pantera singer himself had the following to say about the split:

“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers Warbeast. The title of the split is War Of The Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the ‘60s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our ‘Gargantuan’ personalities.

Both Warbeast and myself have full-length LPs that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ’til we both release our full-length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”

The cover artwork for War Of The Gargantuas can be seen above. It remains unclear as to when (or if) we’ll get to see Anselmo and The Illegals (his solo band’s name) onstage. However, Anselmo’s other band Down have just announced U.S. dates for this coming January, and guess who will be opening for them again [spoiler alert: Warbeast].
