Many in the West Coast metal industry will be at the Club Nokia in Los Angeles next Wednesday (23) for the Golden Gods Awards. However, for those not able to make it out that don’t want to hunker down around a computer screen, the event is returning to television, and will air on VH1 Classic on May 24. Billboard reports that the four hour event will be edited to a 90-minute version when it airs on the channel, and will be hosted by That Metal Show crew Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson. If you’re tuning in next Wednesday at VH1.com or on their mobile app, the black carpet will be hosted by Dee Snider.
It’s going to be a star-studded event, with Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose getting the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, and Joan Jett will be getting the Golden God Award, the first time a female will be getting the award. GN’R, Jett. and Zakk Wylde will be playing, among others. For the first time, Dick Clark Productions will be producing the show. “The VH1 Classic audience has a rabid appetite for all things hard rock and metal, so bringing our audience the only hard rock awards show was a must-do on our programming list,” VH1 and VH1 Classic executive vice president of music production Lee Rolontz says.
