Last week, mysterious website Metalocalypse Now launched and became less mysterious. Basically, it’s a campaign to get a finale of Metalocalypse: Dethklok to air somewhere. Creator Brendon Small backs it, has the whole ending figured out and would like to see his show given a proper sendoff more than anyone, or at least more than anyone currently at Adult Swim. Since Adult Swim content, including the first four seasons of Metalocalypse, can be streamed on Hulu, the campaign is focusing on reaching out to the streaming service, as well as Adult Swim, and asking fans to request a final season.
No word on how many people have done so since the campaign launched last week, but they have one high profile band to reach out: Metallica. And not only did they do it, but did so publicly. The campaign is definitely preaching to the die-hards, but Metallica’s mention of it probably got a lot more casual fans of the series, or perhaps some that are unfamiliar with the awesomeness of the series, to take up the cause. Of course, the band have voiced characters on the show, so they’re more than a little familiar with it. Well done, boys. Hopefully, Small’s plan will come to be.
