Those of you that pay attention to the music industry, are in a band, or live near Austin TX probably know all about South by South West. For the uninitiated, it’s basically a weeklong music, film and technology/social media conference in Texas’ coolest city. A six square block radius is closed off to traffic, and literally thousands of bands play showcases while companies ranging from Converse to MTV throw parties. There are also panels, if you want to learn, beer aplenty if you want to forget what you learned, and lots and lots of BBQ. Metal Insider will be there and are sponsoring several events in addition to looking forward to catching a lot of metal. In fact, this year, it seems like there’s more this year than in previous years. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and in fact, since we’re out on Saturday afternoon, there’s some shows happening late night on Saturday we didn’t write about. But for the most part, here’s where you’ll be able to find us:

First and foremost, we want to mention the events we’re a part of. We’re helping spread the word about the first annual South by South Death, an event being sponsored by NARM, Roxwel, and our life partners at Metal Sucks. The event will be a showcase and roundtable discussion taking place on Friday, March 18 from 2-6. While anyone can get into the showcase, which starts at 2 (space permitting), the discussion is RSVP only. And assuming they get their passports in order by then, it’ll be headlined by Insider faves Kvelertak, along with Havok, Red Fang, Wormrot and Meek Is Murder. That’s a quality lineup of metal right there. Oh yeah, and it’s free!

Also free, and back again for a third year, is Full Metal Texas. This year, they’ve teamed up with Brooklyn Vegan and 1000 Knives to take over Emos on Thursday, March 17 from Noon-6. Yob will be playing their first Austin show in five years, and also appearing will be Letlive, All Pigs Must Die, Trap Them, The Word Alive, Rwake, Hull, Better Left Unsaid, Elysion Fields, Upon a Burning Body, Kvelertak (again, hopefully), The Red Chord and Goes Cube. You can RSVP by joining their mailing list here. Like the last several years, the show is also sponsored by Branch Marketing Collective and Yeah! Management.

On Wednesday, March 16, I’ll be spinning some tunes at the Calyp Casa Heavy Happy Hour. Along with my buddies Chuck Loesch from 101X’s No Control, Matt Ash from Raw Power Management, and Justin Press from Wheelhouse PR, we’ll be providing the soundtrack to some early evening drinkin’ brought to you by the folks atBlue Calypso. Once again, it’s free, but you’ve got to RSVP. And while that’s what we’ve attached our name to, that’s merely scratching the surface. Also, keep in mind that this is by no means the definitive list of all things metal, just where we plan on trying to be:
