While it’s become commonplace that Metallica have a yearly day with the San Francisco Giants, that doesn’t make it any less of an occasion. For the third consecutive year, Metallica day happened at AT&T Park. On Saturday, May 2, many of the things that have happened in past years occurred again: Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield playing the National Anthem, Lars Ulrich throwing out the first pitch Hetfield announcing the starting lineup and Robert Trujillo saying “play ball.”

And while San Francisco radio station Live 105 is more alternative than rock, Hetfield spoke to the station about Metallica Day:
“We are fortunate enough to live in the Bay Area and hook up with the Gianta. They are a bunch of local boys doing good and we are hopefully in the same department as that. It’s basically a fun night. Local people. Local music.”

Metallica have branched out into other sports as well, having recently hosted a hockey night with the San Jose Sharks.
