You’re probably not aware of Zedd unless you’re well-versed in top 40, but the 27 year-old Russian transplant has written songs for Lady Gaga, Kesha, Selena Gomez and others and his singles “Stay” and “Get Low” are hits that you’ve probably heard in the background while you shop. Currently the subject of a Billboard cover story, the article reveals that from 2002 – 2010, Zedd, who’s real name is Anton Zaslavski, played drums in his brother Arkadi’s metalcore band Dioramic.
The article says Dioramic were popular enough in Germany that he and his brother would often skip class to go on tour. Their 2010 album Technicolor was released here on Lifeforce Records, and it’s not terrible. The band has a bit of a Deftones sound. After hearing the first album from Justice, Zedd decided he was more interested in electronic music, and while Diorama are still together, his brother now lives with him in his $4 million home in Los Angeles.
