This sounds unsettlingly familiar. According to a Swiss newspaper, a 28-year old man died last week at a Suicidal Tendencies show in Switzerland. The head of the venue, Pipo Kofmehl, commented on the incident:
“Unfortunately, crowd members failed to properly catch him and he fell to the ground. A security guard responded immediately, helped the young man and our emergency unit reacted as well.”
The man apparently got up after the fall and tried to go home, but Kofmehl decided that he should go to the hospital instead. The man then reportedly died two days later after an epileptic seizure. An investigation is being launched.
It goes without saying that this echoes the incident with Lamb of God and the death of a fan in the Czech Republic who fell from the stage. Hopefully this doesn’t unfold in a similar fashion, but that incident certainly should have served as a wake up call not only to venue security worldwide, but also to any fan that decides to stage dive.
