Heavy metal can be an excellent therapy for lots of fans to get through lots of disheartening times. Ironically and charmingly, there happened to be the fun of bringing a death metal tour to Los Angeles at 1720 on Valentine’s Day. The Terrifying North America Tour arrived featuring Aborted, originally from Belgium, with support from UK-based band Ingested. The addition of PeelingFlesh, along with Exterminated Dismemberment, really rounded out the night.
Although I arrived a bit later on in the evening, the first two bands proved worthy just on name alone. Who doesn’t want an Exterminated Dismemberment followed by PeelingFlesh, only to be Ingested and Aborted later on? Thank you to PinUp Productions for the great death metal lineup. This show really made me miss the fun years of Las Vegas Deathfest which had a plethora of different style death metal mixed with some straight up grindcore fun. Someone needs to bring that back.
Moving onto a pretty full house at 1720 around 8:30 pm after some very not metal DJ break between bands, UK-originated band Ingested lit up the stage with their brand of brutal death metal. This was mixed in with some deathcore and even a bit of grindcore in the vocal range.
Full of blast beats and screams in a fun guttural pitch, Ingested riled up the pit into a “Wall Of Death,” because what death metal show is complete without multiple “Wall Of Death” intros? With a few members coming from a deathcore background, Ingested takes on a new horizon of brutality. Hailing into existence from after the turn of the century, it is great to see them on the rise, and touring America.
After a fairly short set, around 9:20, Aborted showed Los Angeles how to overpower love with brutal death on this lovely evening. They played just over a 90-minute set, with blast beats galore, deep brutal death vocals, and more “Wall Of Death’ intros. They currently have a really strong lineup, despite members being from all over the map, and only one original from the Belgium crew. They brought on stage a couple of zombie-like plastic guests, who looked a bit stiff all night, but were brutally adapting to the scenery and tunes with their brutalized mutilated bodies. It was a nice addition to their setlist combination which fans were seemingly pleased by.
Long story short, whether single or in a relationship, this show’s brutality and great four band lineup brought a warm yet sinister feeling to all their old and new fans’ hearts. As for the venue 1720, the whole weekend brought some great death metal as the tour with Nile on Saturday, and the tour with SepticFlesh on Sunday left no heavy metal brutal stones unturned. Support and stay death metal, and strive to bring back more deathfests closer to home.
