One of the more unlikely collaborations of the year is Primus bassist/vocalist Les Claypool with Sean Lennon, son of John Lennon. Granted, it’s not that odd, given that Lennon has been following in his dad’s footsteps since the mid ’90s. In fact, it was his band Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, who opened for Primus last year, that led to Monolith of Phobos, the debut album from Claypool Lennon Delirium. The two have joined up for a tour, which came to Irving Plaza last night (30) for a show that included everything from a Beatles cover to songs from Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade and Lennon’s other band in addition to songs from the album. Sean’s mom even made her way onstage for the band’s take of Primus’ “Southbound Pachyderm.” Metal Insider contributing photographer Melinda Oswandel was on hand to capture the show.
