Rumors of a new Linkin Park singer have been circulating, hinting at a potential 2025 reunion tour. Earlier this year, Orgy vocalist Jay Gordon suggested that a female singer might replace the late Chester Bennington, though he later retracted the statement, turning it into speculation. Now, attention has shifted to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley. With Sum 41 on a farewell tour, fans believe Whibley might be preparing for a new chapter.
The rumors gained traction when Sum 41 teased on social media with a “Deryck Whibley announcement” for August 28, coinciding with a countdown on Linkin Park’s social media. Sources have seen this countdown shared by the Welcome to Rockville festival’s social media, suggesting Linkin Park could return to the stage in 2025. Since Bennington’s passing in 2017, Linkin Park’s future has been uncertain. But with the countdown on their social media and website, which references their former name “ø,” anticipation is building for what the August 28 reveal will bring.
However, as Metal Insider prefers to report fact over fiction, Sum 41 have issued a new statement, denying said rumors:
“I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter. I have my own ‘Tour and Book’ announcement that I will now move to teh end of the week, ahead of our US tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
While rumors are great for clicks, waiting until it’s confirmed or denied is best. Therefore, Whibley will make his solo announcement later this week than tomorrow based on the excessive speculation. Although, it would have been cool seeing him as a vocalist for Linkin Park.
