The passing of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie earlier this year was one of the biggest losses in the metal community of the last decade. As the outspoken frontman of the band, he was essentially the spokesman for the band. They proved they could soldier on without him, playing an energetic, blood-soaked and surprisingly emotional set at the GWAR-B-Q. It was there that they introduced a new character, Blothar, played by original Beefcake the Mighty Michael Bishop. And while original member Slymenstra Hymen made an appearance at their first show back after Brockie’s passing, this past weekend at the Riot Fest in Chicago, a new character made her debut – Vulvatron. The irreplaceable Dave Brockie has been replaced with two front-people.

Yes, that’s right, instead of being an ancillary player in the GWAR universe, Vulvatron is up front. In fact, she’s already established an online presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. A purple-haired character that sprays blood from her large prosthetic breasts, she’s more than just another replacement. As Kim Kelly points out on Wondering Sound:

Now, all of a sudden, there’s a big, brash, bold new female personality on stage with a legendary band. Moreover, she’s just as gross and goofy as her male bandmates, whether she’s slaying dinosaurs or disemboweling Nazi skinheads onstage or drenching her minions with the aforementioned boob-blood (a move which, as a bit of trivia, references Slymenstra’s past crotch-spewing exploits).

It’s pretty exciting that one of the more popular metal bands around now has a female mouthpiece. Vulvatron is the alter ego of Kim Dylla, a clothing designer and musician. And while her website suggests that she’s already an accomplished musician and artist in her own right, she’s about to become a whole lot more well-known.
