Atlanta progressive metal giants Mastodon have parted ways with longtime guitarist Brent Hinds after 25 years. The band announced the decision on social media, stating:

“Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways. We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared, and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road. – Mastodon”

Hinds had been with Mastodon since the band’s formation in 2000, making this the most significant lineup change in their history. The remaining members, Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar/vocals), and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals), will continue with all 2025 touring plans intact. Hinds appeared on every Mastodon album, from 2002’s Remission to 2021’s Hushed and Grim.

The news comes as a sudden shock, especially with Mastodon scheduled to perform at Tool’s Live in the Sand festival this weekend. The band also has a packed touring schedule, including a run with Coheed and Cambria, an appearance at Sonic Temple Fest, and a spot at Black Sabbath’s final show in Birmingham this July. Despite the lineup shift, Mastodon assures fans that the show will go on as they embark on their next chapter.
