Thrash giants Exodus are entering 2025 with a major lineup shift. Following last month’s sudden departure of vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and the return of Rob Dukes, some confusion has surfaced regarding the circumstances. Despite Souza’s long tenure, it appears his exit was not voluntary.
After nearly a month of silence, Souza subtly addressed his departure in the comments of an Instagram post. When a fan inquired about his exit while he was discussing his contribution to the upcoming Testament album, he responded:
“Really no statement, I was let go. If you read the statement, it says Exodus has parted ways, not Zetro has parted ways!”
In another comment, he reiterated:
“I did not leave, I was let go!! Exodus parted ways with Zetro.”
Blabbermouth captured a screenshot of a response from guitarist Gary Holt, who weighed in when a fan asked why Souza was dismissed:
“If I told you, you’d understand. I’ve no desire to talk badly about him. It’s a marriage, being in a band. Behind closed doors, the marriage was done and over.”
While this may be the closest thing to an explanation for Souza’s departure, Exodus are moving forward. The band has two shows planned in April with Death Angel to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Bonded by Blood.
