A little more detail has unexpectedly surfaced regarding Brent Hinds’ departure from Mastodon this past March. While his statement is brief, it offers a glimpse into his feelings toward the split. Earlier today (25), Mastodon shared artwork from their 2014 album Once More ‘Round the Sun to mark its 11th anniversary. A fan commented, asking to hear the track “Halloween” and expressing how they miss Hinds. The guitarist unexpectedly replied directly to the comment, stating:

“I want miss being in a shit band with horrible humans.”

Hinds, who had been with Mastodon since its formation in 2000, contributed lead guitar and vocals across eight studio albums, including their most recent, Hushed and Grim (2021). While it appears he meant “won’t miss,” the sentiment was clear. Hinds seems ready to move on, recently promoting a new solo show via his personal Instagram.
